Again too long since the blogging!!!

So I started the whole blogging thing a few years ago but I set standards that are just too high for me trying to publish, long, whitty posts & often. I over-commit, do "too much" for others, work part-time, help my husband's business (FOR FREE!!!) so trying to keep up with a blog just isn't going to happen. Unless I make some major life changes & let's be honest...at this age that just isn't going to happen! I read several blogs faithfully (Momastery!) & love them. These women are insightful, hilarious, and faithful so that intimidated me. Then it hit me yesterday.... Who am I writing this blog for?!?! The simple answer: me, my hubby & girls. Who cares if anybody else reads it. And honestly, unless you care about the details of the Fishers' lives, you won't really want to read it anyways!!! I'm keeping this blog so I can remember the details during blur that life becomes while raising little girls, so they have some fun memories to look back on & in case I end up with dementia, good nursing home reading! From now on, I'm going to write what I want to remember. Those times I think "man, I hope I don't forget this." Short, sweet and to the point. Plus it's easiest to do this from my iPad & you can't type a novel on this keyboard!

In watching the weather this week, Bug asks "what's milk day?" Whaaaattt?!?? She replied "look! That says its MiLK Day on Monday!" I burst out laughing & informed her there was no "I" in it. It said M.L.K. Day for Martin Luther King Jr." She said "oh, that's right. We get out of school for him, not milk." And yes, Bug is a blonde ;)

Right now, as I'm playing on my iPad, laying on the couch, my hubby is playing Dead Rising 3- killing & running from zombies. Our daughters are yelling at the TV & hubby... "get him!" "Kill him" "eat that!" "Look out for that zombie!" "Over there!" They are a cross between an analyst (wow! That's a lot of blood. A bomb is really the only way to kill them) and a coach (throw a bomb at him. Go that way! No, don't do that!). Parents of the year: definitley not. Sunday Funday: absolutely!!

Happy Sunday y'all!!!

Can't we just all get along????

Ok, so on my birthday our President gave his State of the Union Address and all I could think of is one thing "can't we just all get along?" Now I will admit, I call myself a Democrat but I tend to lean towards Republican on a few issues... after all my husband is a small-business owner and Republican! Do I believe that it costs my family $450 a month for health coverage that does not include any preventative care for me and my husband and for my girls after age 6? Oh HELL no! Do I think that my husband's practice should have to pay for all of his employees to be covered? Oh HELL no! Why can't we just regulate the insurance companies... or just make a deal with the doctors themselves... cut out the middle-man altogether??? It just seems like all Washington is doing is arguing right vs. left; Republican vs. Democrat. What about those of us in the middle?!?! Better yet, how do those of us in the middle get our voices heard? If you aren't on the extreme end of the scale, it seems like, you are truly represented. I do have some Democratic views that will never change. I was raised Catholic and I believe abortions are wrong; however I do NOT believe they should be illegal. It is up to that individual what is best for her and if it is getting an abortion then she must deal with God's judgement. It's not up to me to do that. Also not all Democrats are anti-Christian. I am very much so a Christian and also very proud to be. I'll sing it from the mountain tops, if Robertson County had any! So why am I reaffirming my Democratic views... because my husband and 90% of my friends around here are Republicans. I truly feel lost at times. The Robertson Co. Democratic Party always calls to tell me when they are meeting (since I'm a registered Democrat) and I would like to go once to meet some of my kind (if my husband wouldn't make fun of me for going!). I'm also assuming none are exteme "leftist" and more are middle of the road like I am. In all honesty, during the Primaries, I supported Ron Paul. He was a Republican whom not many Republicans liked... my kind of guy! I am proud to be an American and have Barack Obama as my President but I want to make this the BEST country there is... all of this back and forth bickering, left vs. right crap has GOT to end! The only way we will rise above everybody else and this crisis we are in is to ALL be a part of the solution. So let's just all get along.... ARRGHHH!!!

Sleepover Success!

I survived my first sleepover!!! 1 down, 8,999,999 to go!!! I think the next one may be a while though =) I mean with more than 1 friend present. Those little girls didn't go to sleep until after 10:00! I was asleep by 11 and one of them was still up, having problems going to sleep. I only know that because the hubby woke me up telling me he heard somebody & to go upstairs and check on whoever it was (she was just going potty and the other 3 were already asleep; I gave her a kitty to sleep with and she said that would help). Then what do my little ears hear at 6:30 in the morning... giggling! Four little girls were up and raring to go. I did go upstairs and ask them to be quiet so that I could sleep a little longer but by 7:00, I realized that was a lost cause. It told the moms to pick up the girls at 11 and the last one left at 10:55. I took a 2 hour nap that afternoon and was still in bed at 11 Saturday night.

In true form, Peanut went to bed at 8:30 (only by the grace of God because it was NOT because 4 little girls were playing quietly) and I woke her up at 8:15 the next morning. Oh how I wished it were me =)

The girls had a lot of fun. I got Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner (but they barely ate). We had cupcakes and ice cream (Edy's Light Birthday cake ice cream... it was AWESOME!). Then we let the girls play Wii Sports resort for a little while. They also colored their own Tinkerbell pillow case to take home with them. Then we got ready for bed, put in Kung Fu Panda and ate popcorn. I turned everthing off at 9:30 because they were doing Kung Fu moves along with the panda and I realized that they weren't going to settle down with the tv on. It still took another 45 minutes and 4 trips of "shush-ing" to get them to sleep! The next morning was not as organized. They had donuts and pig-in-a-blankets for breakfast. At 10:00 they wanted a snack and asked for the remaining cupcakes. I knew I'd eat them if they were left with us so I let the girls eat them (there were 5 left, thankfully!). Then we started to clean up. When I say "we" I mean the hubby did 98% of it. I was more trying to settle disputes, console a very tired and whiny Bug and get the girls stuff together to take home! Bug said it was "the best birthday ever" and she had fun. She also asked if she could do it again for her sixth birthday and I just said "when it gets closer to when you turn 6, we will talk about it." Her reply: "how far away is that??"

huh?!?!?

This morning as we are getting ready, Bug tells me that "Momma, you are getting bigger!" This look on my face said "WTF?!?!" She saw that and very innocently aske me "what?" I was trying to be nice so I wanted her to clarify asking if she meant taller or heavier and used my hands to gesture what I was asking. She said taller, "but just a little bit... not like Daddy is though." So I put a smile on my face and went about my business.

Ok- so I know I've put on a few pounds over the holidays but that was a slap of reality. Thankfully my sweet girl didn't mean it that way but it was a bit of motivation. While I was reheating the left over pizza (!), I was doing leg lifts and squats!!! Ha ha ha =)

OMG!!

I am about to lose what little sanity I had left! These girls have been out of school for close to 3 weeks now and they are calling for flurries tonight... in the South, that means schools will be closed. Granted my girls only go 2-3 days a week but those 5 hours last Thursday might have been enough to recharge my sanity. The prospect of having to wait another 3 days for those 5 hours scares the bejesus out of me! Oh and every other day, Bug decides she doesn't need a nap and sits in her room talking to her entourage, reading to them or singing. I know she's trying to give them up altogether and it's probably about past time to but I'm just not ready for that. Plus if she wakes Peanut, doody is gonna hit the fan! A grumpy Peanut makes a miserable momma! LOL

To top it all off... tomorrow my little Bug turns 5. Yes, 5. Why does that sound so odd to say it and type it?!?!? She's not so much of a little girl anymore. She is having her first sleep-over on Friday. Or as the hubby put it, "#1 of 9 million sleep-overs! Let the torture begin!" I can't believe it's been 5 years. I know it's so cliche, but I remember when we brought her home (I'm trying NOT to remember giving birth to that 9 lb. 2 oz. chunk-of-love!!!). I was so unsure of myself and her that we slept on the couch for a week (her on my chest). I remember the Lactation consultant showing me how to nurse, massaging & squeezing my boob in front of my hubby to teach me how to do it properly and then placing my little Hoover on there and I was thinking "won't that hurt her neck in that position? holy crap, how can that little thing suck so hard? how long does this take? What... she needs to eat again... already?" Oh, to be a new-mom again. I'm learning that I am still a "new-mom" just to an almost-kindergartner!

Praying for peace in this Wild House... at least 5 hours of it!

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

...there'll be much mistletoeing and ...cleaning =( YUCK! Yep, the house has to be cleaned. We will have a Christmas Eve brunch plus the girls will be home so my two days without the girls this week were spent cleaning. I don't like doing it; I do all I can to avoid it; I am close to tears when I think about doing it; there's a million other things I'd rather do. So on Tuesday, before I started to deep clean the hardwood floors and mop the kitchen and bathrooms I decided to put in the movie Elf instead of turn on the iPod. It took me the entire movie to get it all done (I can usually do it in under an hour- it becomes a race to see how fast I can finish most of the time!) but I stopped and laughed a lot. Now that is a first. So today I had to clean the bathrooms, so in went Christmas Vacation. I couldn't watch as much since I don't have a TV in the bathroom but I did turn the TV way up so I could hear it and boy did I laugh. A good friend of mine (we've known each other a few years but just became close this past year), I am learning has the entire Christmas Vacation movie memorized. In emails or texts, she'll give me random quotes and now that the movie is fresh in my mind, so many of her emails are making a lot more sense now! So here's what I say to cleaning bathrooms and mopping floors, spoken best by Clark Griswold: "Merry Christmas, kiss my ass, kiss his ass, kiss your ass, and Happy Hanukkah!" Oh & Santa, if you're reading this- all I want for Christmas is a cleaning service and the money to pay for it.... not much ;)

Score one as a housewife!

Last night I was right on up there with June Cleaver and I am damn proud =) We received a Loveless Cafe ham & biscuits gift basket earlier this week so I decided last night we would have breakfast for dinner. OK, so the main reason it was for dinner is because I don't get up early enough to cook a full breakfast for the fam! So I made the biscuits; but of course this mom didn't have any buttermilk so I bundled up the girls and headed to Kroger's to get some because I was pretty sure milk would not be a good substitution in the southern boy's mind! I fried up the ham, some bacon, and made cheese omelets. I even got a compliment from the hubby (or at least I'm counting it as one!)... when he walked in from running, he said "oh, there is nothing better than coming home to the smell of pork!" He also loved the biscuits which I was glad for because they were a hassle to make. Being raised a northerner, our biscuits always came with a cute, pudgy dough boy on them... not mixed by hand, rolled out & cut with a mason jar. I earned my "southern momma" star last night and am displaying it proudly. Oh and I also introduced my girls to eggnog and they loved it! They also love boiled custard so they choose neither north nor south on this debate. The hubby & I decided that northerners like eggnog and southerners prefer boiled custard (at least that's how it is in this house!). We often debate if our girls are more northern or southern; given their southern drawl, they tend to favor the south more!

Side note: if anybody is in need of an Endodontist and is close to Hendersonville, I highly recommend Apex Endodontics... please use them so we can get another Loveless Cafe gift basket next year!! LOL! Oh & Endodontists are the ones that does root canals ;)
